Construction activities that take place during the winter season must be taken with care.

During winter, excavated soils are prone to freezing if they are left open. To prevent this from happening, precautions must be taken to prevent the soil from freezing. Open excavations in sub-zero temperatures can freeze to a significant depth in a matter of a few hours. Open excavations therefore need to be protected during this time so as to prevent any damage caused by freezing or thawing.
