Know What You’re Looking For

It can be an extremely  hard decision to make when choosing a general contractor if you don’t know what you’re looking for. The reason why you want to make sure you make a good choice is because they hold a lot of responsibility, this could be holding a budget, making sure to be on time and just overall making sure your project runs as smoothly and as efficiently as it can.

What To Look For

Things you should be specifically looking for when contracting someone can be: is there any communication before you start?, how’s the customer service?, the organization of their company and how detail oriented they are. Can you tell that they care about their work and how your personal contract turns out? These are all things you should be asking yourself while looking at commercial general contractors.

Making A Decision

Before finalizing your decision on a contractor it is advised that you make sure they know  what they are doing fully. This could be bringing them to the site to get a visual or just in general making sure to dive in specifics about the project. Also make sure to check a lot of references to see what they have done in the past and how previous clients have found them. It’s also a strong idea to get complete and comprehensive estimates on a budget and the amount of time needed to fulfill the contract. Finally get the written contract from the desired contractor and read through carefully making sure it is everything you talked about and need.

During Contract

Being able to be clear in what you want is crucial to ending with a good product at the end of your contract. Also while in your project it is important to trust your contractor but also maintain the same standards you agreed too. An example would be if more money needs to be spent or more time is needed and was not agreed upon at the beginning it is most likely necessary but you as the client should not have to pay for this under estimation by the contractor.

After the Contract

It is important to follow up after your contract has been completed. This could be by leaving a review or becoming a reference for the good or the bad. Giving positive feedback is crucial for a company to get better.
